CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Just a reminder that entries are now open for the Club Championships (both Men and Women). Entry Forms can be obtained from the Pro Shop with payment to be made at the time of entry.

Entries close on Wednesday 5 October. No late entries will be accepted.

Timesheets will not open until Monday 3 October at 12.00 noon for Rounds 1 and 2 (October 8 and 15) of the Men’s Club Championships. Round 3 will open at the normal time (ie Friday 7 October at 3.00pm).

Members not participating in the Championships will have the opportunity to book a tee time from this time.

Every effort is being made to accommodate everyone’s tee requirements, however the later you submit an entry form the less likely there is of getting your required Tee preference (we are already booked through to 8.00am).

When the timesheets are released, Members are not permitted to move their tee time without the approval of the Club Captain (captain@mtderrimut.com.au). Tee times have been designed so as not to leave groups of 1’s or 2’s. Your adherence to this arrangement is appreciated.

More information to come about formats and local rules will be sent to all Members in the week prior to Round 1.

PREFERRED LIES

With the wet weather still hanging around, the Match Committee has decided that we will continue to operate with Preferred Lies for a couple more weeks. Preferred Lies can be taken on all Fairways and closely mown surfaces. You are permitted one handspan from where your balls lies on the Fairway or closely mown surface, no nearer the Hole.

Bunkers will continue to be Preferred Lies until further notice. In Bunkers, you are permitted one Club Length from where your ball lies, no nearer the Hole.

HOLE INDEX UPDATES

Commencing on 1 November 2022, a new Hole Rating System for Men will be implemented at Mt Derrimut.

Justin Gale from the Match Committee has reviewed thousands of cards submitted in competition over the past year or two and has put together an updated Hole Index that the Match Committee has accepted and will implement from 1 November 2022.

There are a few changes to the existing Hole Index, but the most significant is for Players with a Handicap over 19. For example, Hole 1 is currently ranked as the 7th hardest Hole at Mt Derrimut. Under the new Ratings, this Hole will be re-rated as the 3rd hardest hole, however it will be rated the 25th hardest Hole for the higher handicappers, not 21 st as per the previous format. This is because scores submitted for this Hole by Players with a higher handicap show it to be the 7 th hardest Hole on the course.
The new Hole Index from 1 November will be:
The Match Committee will continue to review the Hole Index system on a periodic
basis and if considered necessary, make the required changes.

Justin will review the Ladies Hole Index in the coming month and report back to the
Match Committee to see if it needs adjusting.

MIXED FOURSOMES

The Mixed Foursomes Championships have been re-scheduled to Sunday 18 and 25 September.  This is a team’s event consisting of one Male and one Female Player playing a Foursomes format.

Players must register on the timesheet and inform the Pro Shop that they are playing in the Mixed Foursomes.

LEADERBOARD UPDATES IN MEMBERS LOUNGE

The Match Committee has requested that one TV display the Leaderboard Update on competition days in the Members Lounge.  Keep your eye on how your score is holding up whist having a quiet drink or something to eat from Birdies and Bogies.

DROP ZONES

The Match Committee in consultation with the Course Superintendent, have come up with a new and improved design for Drop Zones. If an area (eg GUR) requires a Drop Zone, a coloured Wooden Stake or Stakes, will be placed into the ground, rather than a box/rectangle painted Drop Zone.  Players will be permitted to drop their ball within 2 Club Lengths of this stake, no nearer the Hole. See image here of stakes.

The Match Committee believe this will enable the Ground Staff to have more flexibility with movement of Drop Zones and also take away the confusion of painted Dropped Zones being in play or not.
