BOARD UPDATE

✔️ A reminder for any new or existing members who don't have their membership card or Golf West card, please get in touch with Brian Hardie via manager@mtderrimut.com.au to organise your membership card. Once your membership card has been printed, this will be made available at the Proshop to pick up.
✔️ Our match committee is actively reviewing the competition policy and there will be an email notification on this topic very shortly. This will address playing/competition policy for all member categories including Base members & PGA professionals.
✔️ On Friday 21st & 22nd May, we hosted Night Golf events which for the club were very successful. 189 patrons attended. 19.69% of these were members where 80.31% were public. Many lessons were learnt from this which include the issue of the number of volunteers, glow in the dark balls we used and lighting out on course. Overall, the club generated over $3.5k in green fee, $4.5k towards the Restaurant/Bar area and revenue for the Driving Range & Proshop also. We look forward to running more events like this very soon. For this, a massive thank you to the following people who helped:

Callan Stone, Paul Jr, Teariki Pulis, Jake Sayer, Louise Reid, Jenna Hunter, Cindy Trinh (non member), Bryan Edwards, Terry Last, Mark Kolaric, Simon Kindred, Jayden Naismith, Suzanne Kuypers, Brian Hardie, Jack Meston (non member - volunteered his time living 45 minutes away), Peter Wallis, Andy Poulter, Alex Mackey and Pratik Dhody.

General Updates

⚠️ New SMS reminder notification service implemented for Saturday/Sunday play notifying players of changes to local rules & general reminders. We hope that you find this service helpful.
⚠️ No Show Policy is in full force and we will be emailing all players who have not been turning up or removing themselves from the tee sheet. A three strike policy will apply and if you breach this protocol, your membership &  course access will be temporarily suspended.
⚠️ Ability tees in full swing midweek. This means that you can choose to play from any tee. We're doing this to allow for more members to play midweek and for them to choose their preferred course distance/difficulty. Thank you for your understanding.
⚠️ Pace of play at the moment is a big issue, especially over the weekends. Please see information below.
⚠️ Due to a bit of confusion on local rules that apply on hole 8, please see the information below. Have you got any other rules or situations that are confusing? Let me know via email and I'll make sure to communicate the ruling in upcoming newsletters.

For any general enquiries or feedback, please contact Pratik via captain@mtderrimut.com.au.

HOLE 8 (SHED) LOCAL RULE

Ever found yourself in a tricky spot near the shed on Hole 8?
The official ruling on this is that the shed itself is an Immovable Obstruction. This means that for this area, Rule 16 of the R&A applies. Please visit rule 16.1 for official documentation on this rule but in essence, the following is the ruling in summary.

❇️ Players can take a free drop (one club length, no nearer to the hole) from the Shed if the Shed itself is in their stance or swing.
❇️ There is no line of sight relief if the Shed is in your way but not interfering with your stance/swing.
❇️ If your ball is on rocks/stones near the shed then you are allowed to place your ball at the nearest point of relief (no nearer to the hole) without penalty.

Examples below:
🔴 My ball is at the red marked X and there are no stones near my ball & the shed does not interfere with my stance/swing but the shed is in my way to the hole. Do I get relief?
No, you do not get relief here.
My ball is at the white marked X and there ARE stones near my ball & the shed does not interfere with my stance/swing. Do I get relief?
Yes, you would get relief as there are stones where your ball is.
🟡
My ball is at the yellow marked X and there are no stones near my ball but the shed does interfere with my stance/swing. Do I get relief?
Yes, you would also get relief because the shed interferes with your stance/swing.

PACE OF PLAY TIPS

The number 1 rule when it comes to Pace of Play on the golf course is to remember, "Your spot in the field is directly behind the group in front, not just in front of the group behind".

Slow play causes issues on the course and detracts from the enjoyment of the game. Everyone in a group has a role to play to ensure your group maintains the correct pace of play. Here are some tips to help speed up your round and keep pace with the group in front.

❇️ Be ready to play when it is your turn, know your distance to the green, select your club, have your glove on, start your pre shot routine ahead of time.
❇️ Play ready golf where possible, if it is safe to do so and you are not going to distract or be in the line of play any of your playing partners.
❇️ On the green, don't rush your putts, but be aware when it is your turn to putt, line your putt up early, tap in short putts if your stance is away from the lines of others.
❇️ Don't score your card at the green, move to the next tee quickly. When getting to the next tee, if the fairway is clear, tee off, then mark your card while your playing partners tee off.
❇️ If you notice you are starting to fall behind, speak up and mention it to the group, something simple like "come on guys, we're starting to fall behind, let's speed it up", and try to make up ground.

Members should not take it upon themselves to reprimand an individual or a group for slow play, if you observe an issue, please raise it in an appropriate manner with a member of the Match Committee or Pro-Shop staff to refer to the Match Committee to address.

✔️ Some great work by the team as you can see in the photos below. Please respect our efforts by keeping away from the garden beds.
