MDGC ON "THE BOUNCE"

Mt Derrimut Golf & Community Club was featured as part of the Fox Sports "The Bounce" show last weekend. Didn't get a chance to watch? Head to https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/tv-shows/bounce and you'll find Episode dated 28/06 for your viewing! Enjoy!

SPEED OF PLAY

Some Saturday morning members are taking up to 2 ½ hours to complete their first 9 holes of play. This is causing a big issue for afternoon golfers getting their round completed before it is dark.
All Members who are playing on Saturday mornings are reminded that if the group in front of you are one hole ahead of you, you need to make an effort to regain your place in the field, which is behind the group in front of you, not in front of the group behind you.
Your assistance in meeting this requirement would be much appreciated as the Match Committee are trying to ensure that all Members are getting their rounds completed before darkness.

COURSE UPDATE

With the Coronavirus affecting the way we play and manage our bunkers, it is a timely reminder to point out a couple of important messages:
⚠️ Bunkers are to be played as Preferred Lies until such times as Rakes are permitted back in Bunkers. The procedure for Preferred Lies in Bunkers is that you may move you ball to a better lie, however it should only be one card length from the balls original position, no nearer the hole.
⚠️ As there are no rakes in Bunkers, bunkers should be smoothed out with your feet after your shot.
⚠️ You should try and enter and exit at the lowest point of the Bunker, not at the top of the bunker where extreme damage can be caused to the face of these bunkers.
As everyone may have already noticed we have planted 520 trees and shrubs around the course. The tree varieties used were, River Red Gum, Spotted gum, Flowering Gum, growing between 15-30mts with a variety of different canopies. For the shrubs, we planted Leptospermums, Callistemons and Banksias which grow 2-12mts tall, with a variety of flowers and colour.
Please remember that these trees and shrubs are staked, and as such if you ball comes to rest near these trees and shrubs, and they will interfere with your swing, you are permitted to a free drop, at the nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole.  Please adhere to this rule at all times.
A big thank you goes out to all the members who donated to the tree program. It is much appreciated.  I would also like to thank Les Chard, Eric Scott, Terry Last, John Meilak, Alan Harris, Malcom D'Souza, Peter Plytus, Paul Battaglia and Bob Christie for their help in planting the trees. It was much appreciated. With the trees now in the ground could all gofers please take care around the trees and shrubs particularly when on carts driving through rough.
If you may be interested in volunteering like the wonderful team of volunteers we have, please do not hesitate in getting contact with Lee at course@mtderrimut.com.au as we have a large variety of jobs that may interest you.
Thanks again to the volunteers who helped planting the trees and to all the other volunteers who give so much of their time, it is very much appreciated,

RESTAURANT / BAR

Just a reminder to all Members that your Members Club Card can now be used in the Members Lounge or Restaurant.  With some restrictions easing, you can now have a drink without a meal, however Social Distancing Measures are still required.  So, if you can find the time after your game to have a drink or something to eat, I am sure Tam and Belva would appreciate your support during these difficult times.

VALE FRITZ WEBER

Unfortunately, Mt Derrimut lost one of its long-serving members recently in Fritz Weber passing away. Fritz was a Member at both the old and new courses but due to ill health, has not been seen around the club in recent times. To the Weber family, we extend our condolences from all who knew Fritz at Mt Derrimut (Sunshine) Golf & Community Club.
