TREE CAMPAIGN

Some time ago, the club conducted a campaign to raise some funds for a Tree Planting program. The Board are happy to announce that funds raised from that campaign have been used by our course superintendent  (Lee Veal) to purchase over 700 trees that the team will begin planting over the next month or two. Lee has purchased seedlings, as he believes this will give the best results for our course.

GOLF WEST CARD UPDATE

Golf west cards are now available for pick up from the proshop from Saturday 6th June. Cards are only available to members with 7 day playing rights (i.e. 7 day, senior 7 day, all intermediate categories, gold members and life members).

Golf west cards can only be used by contacting the clubs directly and organising a suitable date and time for playing. You are not permitted to visit a club without a booking and present your golf west card and expect it to be redeemed.

Golf west cards are only for the person it has been allocated to and cannot be transferred to another person. Clubs will conduct checks through golflink or home clubs to ensure the validity of the card. Cards are valid until 30 March 2021.

For any further questions or issues relating to the golf west card, please contact membership@mtderrimut.com.au

VICTORIAN GOLF CARD UPDATE

As reported in last month’s newsletter, we have been negotiating with other Clubs within the Victoria Golf card to continue the arrangement that has been in place for the past 12 months, but unfortunately, we have had a number of clubs withdraw from this arrangement. Therefore, this card is no longer valid for use, effective immediately.

COURSE UPDATE

With winter upon us and rainfall above average, it would be fair to say the course is holding a lot of water. In times like this, it is important that we navigate our way around the golf course as best we can.

When driving a golf cart, please keep the carts on paths wherever there is one, particularly the paths around the greens. Please also stick to the fairway edges and high spots on fairways, avoid driving in the low spots on fairways and avoid driving in the rough as much as possible. This will contribute significantly to improving the aesthetics of the course over the winter period and help the grass thrive when conditions become more favourable.

Soon we will see many more trees out on the course having recently purchased a variety of Eucalyptus trees and native shrubs, these will be distributed throughout the course.

Lee is looking to start a monthly working bee and is calling on anyone who would like to volunteer some of their time. Our primary target is to improve the garden beds around the course and with more hands we have, the easier it becomes. If you may be interested in being part of the working bee, please contact Lee on course@mtderrimut.com.au for more details

PRIZE FUND MONEY

As reported in the march newsletter, the board had decided that all prize money won prior to the 31 July 2019, would be withdrawn from members accounts on 31 July 2020. Due to COVID19 restrictions, the board have decided that prize money will not be withdrawn from members accounts until 31 December 2020 (for prize money won prior to 31 December 2019). Further updates will be provided closer to the time, however, if the COVID19 restrictions continue to cause some issues, then this date will be once again reviewed.

We have also been having some issues with prize money being allocated to members accounts. These issues have now been resolved and all Members should be able to view their prize money in the "My Information" area of the web site. If anyone does believe they still have some issues with prize money, please contact accounts@mtderrimut.com.au with all the details of the problem.

VOLUNTEERS

As reported in the may newsletter, during our shutdown, some hard-working Members erected a proshop storeroom, however, I failed to name one of those hard-working members in Murray Luke. Thank you, Murray, for your time and effort you gave to this project, I am sure it was very much appreciated by all.

Also, during the shutdown, Charlie Urek and George Andoniadis have been working very hard on getting the drinks cart up and running. We now have the drinks cart ready to grace our fairways once again with food and drinks!

Although I have named some members above and in previous newsletters for their work around the club, there are many members who volunteer their work to our club. For that, we all thank you all for your efforts. If anyone would like to send me a story or two about some of our volunteers, I would be more than happy to continue to publish stories about our volunteers and the work they do for our Club. Please forward these nominations to membership@mtderrimut.com.au

BOARD EVENTS

During the shutdown, there were some board events that were not played and as such, the match committee have decided that we will endeavour to “catch up” on these events as per the below arrangements:
  1. Whitris Shield – Singles Match Play – Entries will now open again on Saturday 6 June and close on Saturday 20 June.  A draw will be produced soon after entries close and be posted on the web site and on the notice board in the nembers lounge and Pro Shop.  Members who entered prior to the shutdown will automatically be included in the entries and do not need to re-enter. There is a chance, depending on the number of entries received, that this event may run into the Doubles Match Play, however, the match committee feel it is important to try and complete this event as best as possible.
  2. Jim Page Over 60’s Memorial – will now be played on Saturday 20 June. This event is run in conjunction with the normal competition of the day and all members over the age of 60 will be eligible to win this event.
  3. Men’s and Ladies Ashes – although this event has been linked with Anzac Day in recent years, it has a lot of history with our Club, and as such, this event will be rescheduled to Saturday 31 October. More information on the event will be published closer to the day.
The match committee will review all board events on a continual basis to ensure we try and get them competed as per the syllabus. At this stage, the match committee believes club championships and foursomes championships will go ahead as scheduled, however, we are at the hands of COVID19 and its restrictions, but all Members will be kept up to date on developments through these newsletters. The Ladies committee are also looking at their syllabus to ascertain if they need to re-schedule any events.

COVID19 TIMESHEETS & SHOTGUN STARTS

As reported in the previous President updates, we have been unable to utilise a shotgun start timesheet due to restrictions and recommendations from Golf Australia.
This is not ideal for us given we are now going into winter and some of the afternoon groups are struggling to get through their round before it gets dark.

As a result, it is vitally important for the Saturday morning groups to keep the group in front in sight at all times and if you do fall behind, an effort is made to try and catch up. By doing this we can try and get the afternoon groups off on time or earlier if possible.

The Match Committee will continue to review the timesheet to ensure all our members get their game completed before darkness. This may include looking at shotgun starts should the government relax social distancing measures at a later date.

It is also important that you withdraw your name from the timesheet if you are not playing on a weekend. There have been many members on the waiting list on Saturdays and Sundays just waiting to get a game, so please support them and the Club by meeting this request.
